  • ACF Streamlined Railway Post Office-Baggage Car Chicago & North Western(TM) HO scale "Empire Builder" Cars for the 60s and 70s The Empire Builder carried an ACF RPO-Baggage car to handle mail to on-line destinations and passenger luggage. This car is based on cars #37-42 from the 1951 consist, but these models are dressed in the color schemes that succeeded the green-and-orange scheme. Introduced in 1951, the streamlined Empire Builder featured cars delivered in a classy Pullman Green and Omaha Orange color scheme. In 1967, Great Northern decided to modernize its identity as a bold, modern company. The Big Sky Blue color scheme was introduced and immediately applied to locos, cars and equipment on its flagship, the Empire Builder. But the GNs end was near as there was already a move afoot to merge with the NP, CB&Q and SP&S. Burlington Northern became reality in 1971. Its Cascade Green and white colors were applied to equipment just before the merger took place (without BN lettering, of course). Empire Builder and other passenger cars received a unique window band that curved downward at one end, the shape of a hockey stick. The scheme was called Hockey Stick by many railroaders and fans; it lasted only a year until Amtrak took over passenger operations, although BNs business cars wore the scheme well into the 90s. This streamlined model has all the features modelers love about Walthers passenger cars including working diaphragms, interiors and provisions for adding DC or DCC interior lighting using Walthers Interior Lighting Kits 933-1049 or 933-1084 (sold separately). These models are decorated in these later schemes, except for the undecorated version which is ready for you to customize for your own railroad. Undecorated GN (Big Sky Blue) BN Update your Empire Builder with this car, which comes factory-finished in the GN "Big Sky Blue" scheme adopted in 1967.
